Thought of Built Environment 1

As we progress, we should vividly see what we learn among these 6 elements:
-act-actor-product-rules-site-intension-

The most vitally important thing is how you apply these elements into your life.
Have the right thinking, concerning everything, every living around you. Build up the correct intension which is not harmful to any living element. Act,study, learn and work it out; pertaining to the life priciples and orders without breaking the rules. Be a responsibility human/actor, play your roles wisely. In these order, you can create something brand new-product. A product which is advantaging everyone. A good start up would be leading to good ending. Make your own thought and learn from the past or failure.

Right back what is wrong, we move along!

Built Environment: Assignment B Geodesic Dome (10-09-2008)

Intension

Idea:

- To experience a real construction.
- To enable a practical learning space for actors to learn the actual construction.
- To be holistic, analyzing the whole system of believes.
- Learn to consider all factors before construction.
- To be simulative, reproduce features of something exist.

Decision Made:

- Rules given
- Site given
- Actors selected
- Product detail given

Group formed: 5 people with at least one different in major
Product to be established: A Geodesic Dome
Rules: Zero cost, Packaged, Prefabricated, Accommodate 5, Carry able by 3, Assembled in 30min.
Site: Inside of campus, starting from school of HBP.

Actor

5members of the group work together to build up the dome.

Product

Geodesic Dome Selected: 2V
Size of radius: 1 meter.

Wall constructs with 5 pentagons and 1 roof (pentagon also)

Pentagon: Formed by 5 sticks with 0.55 meters at the center and at the end
sticks is connected with another sticks with 0.62 meters.
The pentagon is actually formed by 5 isosecles triangles.

6 pentagons will merge with each other at each edge to form a geodesic dome.
After merging the pentagon’s wall, many equilateral triangles with 0.62 meters will be formed at each side of the triangles.

Rules
Source Collected: Zero cost. Material is gathered and cleaned. Ropes are collected at dock where fisherman used to tie boat knot. Smelly and is cleaned with fresh water. Kayu Mertam is collected from hearse and coffin shop where Chinese used them to construct sculpture to burn for dead people. The wood is being shaped into the size we want. Material is recyclable. Coconut ropes can be connected by using machine into long-chain coconut fiber ropes. The Kayu Mertam is a natural and biodegradable material; light and not heavy, merging into one piece by factory to form a wood platform. It’s packaged and formed by 6 pieces of pentagon wall. Can accommodate 5peoples and carry able by 3peoples. No steel material has been used, no rusting condition occur.

It’s prefabricated. The lifespan of the dome should be more than one year. The entire dome fulfills all the requirements listed.

Site

Actual Site: On the Domes Day, our actual site is located at number3.

Report on Project Schedule

1st Meeting: Planning and Material Determination
Date: 27 August 2008
Data: Gather opinions from each member. Material selection has been made. Opinion analysis has been made and choice of selection is made.
Conclusion: Choose for wood material but not too heavy to enable transportation system. We search for wood in forest but failed. We sketch and calculate the size of the dome. We found out that 2V dome is suitable for us and we decided to use the appropriate scale that we have calculated for our dome.

2nd Meeting: Practical Building 1
Date: 3 September 2008
Data: Material gathered. Practice on merging the product and design the structure.
Conclusion: Finally one of our members passed a coffin shop and she sees lights. We decided to use the wood that those material that has been used by that shop. The shopkeeper agreed to provide us excessive wood material. After gathered up all the material, we started to build our foundation for the dome. We accomplished the dome foundation within 4 hours.

3rd Meeting: Practical Building 2
Date: 5 September 2008
Data: Structure confirmation has been made.
Conclusion: We started to make our roof and finally combined them together to form a dome. Sugar bags are collected and sealed them up into one piece. We are trying to form a large piece of shelter for the dome. We succeed.

4th Meeting: 30 Minutes Training
Date: 9 September 2008
Data: Trial on overall project. Prefabricated pieces are formed into one in time.
Conclusion: We practice on how we build the dome in time. We separate the job evenly. Final practice has been made.

HOUSING-AN ACT OR A PRODUCT?

This lecture we discuss about housing.
Question: housing is an act or a product? From the point of being an act, housing is a verb.

Housing involves 5 keys:
  1. Hand key: key which is used to open the doors of building(pass the key to someone after payment, you can go inside)
  2. Structural and infill: infill an existing structure
  3. Core house: extend when infill infrastructure (extend as and when the need arises)
  4. Site and Services: build on exisitng infrastructure
  5. Provide land: give the task of building determining to the end users.

Sometimes housing is an act of collecting votes.
Nowadays, housing is not a problem because it is a demand for people. It is a place where people use to run activities. Peoples like contractors, architects, engineers and quantity surveyors use it to make money. The design of local houses is to obtain a minimum cost and is affordable by the buyers.

If we say housing is a product, then housing can be categorised into different types such as low-cost houses, medium-cost houses and high-cost houses. People who buy the high-cost houses are going to subsidise those who buy the low-cost houses. This is because low-cost houses also cost around RM1.5M. Hostel, resort and hotel is not considered as house.

Housing can be differentiated as:
Form: aggregation, division
Management: self, condominium

Built Environment: Site-Scale of the Built Environment (27-08-2008)

SCALE

-must be relative to another measurement(the measurement is human being)
-either small
-or large

What is global government?

World government is the concept of a political body that would make, interpret and enforce international law. Inherent to the concept of a world government is the idea that nations would be required to pool or surrender (depending on point of view) sovereignty over some areas. In effect, a world government would add another level of administration above the existing national governments or provide coordination over areas national governments are not capable of adequately addressing as independent polities. To date, no nation has officially put forward plans for a world government, although some people do see international institutions (such as the International Criminal Court, European Union, United Nations and International Monetary Fund) as the beginning elements of a world government system. An organization comprised of legislators from various nations known as Parliamentarians for Global Action have promoted ideas of democratic global governance, though such promotion has varied in its scope and intensity during the organization's history.

What is world order?

The term "new world order" has been used to refer to a new period of history evidencing a dramatic change in world political thought and the balance of power. The first usages of the term surrounded Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points and call for a League of Nations following the devastation of World War I. The phrase was used sparingly at the end of the Second World War when describing the plans for the United Nations and Bretton Woods system, in part because of the negative association to the failed League of Nations the phrase would bring. In retrospect however, many commentators have applied the term retroactively to the order put in place by the WWII victors as a "new world order."The most recent, and most widely discussed, application of the phrase came at the end of the Cold War. Presidents Mikhail Gorbachev and George H.W. Bush used the term to try to define the nature of the post Cold War era, and the spirit of great power cooperation that they hoped might materialize. Gorbachev's initial formulation was wide ranging and idealistic, but his ability to press for it was severely limited by the internal crisis of the Soviet system. Bush's vision was, in comparison, much more circumscribed and pragmatic, perhaps even instrumental at times, and closely linked to the Gulf War. Perhaps not surprisingly, the perception of what the new world order entailed in the press and in the public imagination far outstripped what either Gorbachev or Bush had outlined, and was characterized by nearly comprehensive optimism.

What is global scale?
The geographical realm encompassing all of Earth.

Eurocentric Representation of the Globe (Eurocentric=idea which is designed by European)

Orientalisme-an idea about global government on how do you govern the world
